Start with ceremony type
Decide whether you want a legally registered marriage in northern Cyprus, a symbolic celebration after a legal ceremony elsewhere, or both. Requirements depend on nationality and the authority registering the marriage. UK government guidance states that couples in the north need a civil ceremony for the marriage to be recognised there. Ask the local registry and your home-country authority which documents, translations, notice periods and certificate procedures apply to you. Do this before booking a venue.
Choose a setting that works for guests
Bellapais offers a hillside village atmosphere, Kyrenia has a harbour and hotel choice, and larger coastal resorts can simplify group accommodation. Check the actual ceremony licence or permission for the chosen venue, indoor weather backup, accessibility and noise limits. Our Kyrenia guide and hotel collection help compare locations; a venue photograph is not proof of available dates or legal approval.
Plan guest travel early
Guests may arrive by different airports or hold different passports. Share the Green Line crossing guide and transfer planning page, but ask each guest to check their own official entry advice. Build in time for delayed flights and paperwork appointments.
Get a written wedding quote
Ask who provides the ceremony, coordinator, catering, photography and transport. Separate venue hire from legal fees, registrar charges, flowers, equipment, accommodation and taxes. Confirm payment schedule, weather alternative and cancellation terms, especially where suppliers are different companies.
Keep legal checks independent
A wedding planner can coordinate documents, but should not be the only source on recognition and legal requirements. Use official registry and consular advice; consider independent legal advice if your circumstances are complex. Rules and appointment availability can change.
