The essentials for any month
Bring travel documents, insurance details, necessary medication in original packaging, charging adapters, comfortable walking shoes, sun protection and a light layer for air-conditioned transport. Keep the first night's essentials in hand luggage if you are connecting through another airport. Check airline baggage and medicine rules before departure.
Spring and autumn
Layers work well when mornings, coast and mountain stops feel different. Pack a light waterproof layer for occasional showers and shoes suited to uneven archaeological sites. Spring suits wildflower walks; autumn can still allow beach days, but sea and air conditions vary. Our hiking guide covers walking kit.
Summer
Prioritise shade, a hat, refillable water bottle, high-factor sunscreen and loose breathable clothing. Plan exposed sites early or later in the day. Heat is more than a comfort issue, especially for children and older travellers. Check the current forecast and alerts, not just a monthly average. The general safety guide links to broader travel advice.
Winter
Pack layers, rain protection and closed shoes. Some accommodation and pools may not be heated; ask before booking. Coastal weather can be pleasant for walking but should not be marketed as guaranteed beach weather. Weather in the mountains can differ from the coast on the same day, and wet stone at castles needs care.
Match the bag to the itinerary
For beach days, take swimwear and suitable water shoes if the shoreline is rocky. For Salamis or Soli, stable footwear and water matter more than formal clothes. For mosque visits, take clothing appropriate to current visitor rules. Check the site's weather page and the Cyprus meteorological forecast again shortly before travel; sea temperatures and seasonal conditions cannot be guaranteed from a packing list.
