Choose a village for its setting

Villages in the Kyrenia foothills, inland east and Karpaz are not interchangeable. Some have cafés and visitor sites; others are mainly residential. Büyükkonuk is known for community eco-tourism initiatives, but event dates and activities should be checked with organisers. The eco-tourism guide can help connect a village stop with a walk.

Visit as a guest

Park without blocking doors or working lanes, keep noise low and ask before photographing people, homes or workshops. Buy directly from a local business when it fits your trip, but do not expect every resident to perform a tradition for visitors. The pleasure of a small place can be an ordinary coffee and a quiet walk, not a scheduled attraction.

Plan services and transport

Check whether a café or shop is open before relying on lunch in a small settlement. Carry water, cash for smaller purchases and a downloaded map. Roads can be narrow and street names inconsistent. A trip plan with one or two nearby stops is better than driving through a long list of villages without time to meet anyone.

Connect food and landscape

Olives, herbs, cheese and seasonal produce are part of the rural food story, but availability changes by place and season. Our food guide introduces the dishes; the olive guide explains how to check for a current harvest event. Leave paths, fields and farm gates as you find them.
