Choose by location first
The “best” beach depends on your base and what you need. Kyrenia-area beaches can suit a shorter outing; İskele Long Beach has a different, more developed coastal setting; the Karpaz coast needs a longer journey and more self-sufficiency. Our Long Beach guide and Karpaz guide explain those differences.
Check facilities and access
Find out whether shade, toilets, lifeguards and food are available on your actual date. A beach associated with a hotel may have a separate day-use policy. Bring water and sun protection, and do not assume a remote stretch is suitable for children or accessible mobility equipment. Ask locally about currents, sea conditions and any temporary closure before swimming.
Respect nesting beaches
Some coastal areas are important for sea turtles. Follow seasonal signs, avoid artificial light and keep clear of marked nests. SPOT’s turtle-watching programme is a better route to a managed wildlife experience than searching for nests independently. Read our turtle guide before planning a dusk beach visit.
Make a good beach day
Check the current forecast, sea state and travel time. Pair a beach with one nearby stop rather than crossing the island several times. If being steps from the sand matters more than a day trip, our beachfront hotel guide lists the questions to ask before booking. Leave the shore as you found it.
