Choose a beach around your base
Kyrenia is a broad coastal area, not one continuous public beach. A cove near town, Alagadi east of the centre and resort beaches farther along the coast create different journeys. Put your hotel on a map before choosing a beach from a “best” list. Our Kyrenia guide explains the town and wider coast, while the island-wide beach guide compares other regions.
Kervansaray and town-side options
The tourism office describes Kervansaray as a municipal beach area west of central Kyrenia with changing rooms, showers and a designated swimming area. Check current facilities, access and any charge with the operator before relying on that description. A sheltered bay may suit some visitors, but water conditions, depth and lifeguard presence must be assessed on the day. Arriving early can make parking and shade easier during the busiest summer weeks.
Alagadi is a conservation beach
Alagadi offers a sandy setting east of Kyrenia, but it is also important turtle-nesting habitat. It is not a beach club, and its facilities are limited. Follow seasonal signs, keep away from marked nests and do not visit the nesting beach at night independently. SPOT runs managed conservation activities; our Alagadi guide and turtle guide explain how to check current access.
Private and hotel beaches
Some hotels and clubs along the Kyrenia coast sell day access or reserve facilities for guests. Ask about the exact stretch of sand, water entry, transport from your accommodation, loungers, towels and any minimum spend. A named “Kyrenia beach resort” may be a drive from the harbour. The beachfront hotel checklist helps compare booking claims without assuming every sea-view room has direct access.
Swimming safely
Check the current forecast, sea state, local warnings and whether a lifeguard is actually on duty. Stay within your ability and supervise children closely; shallow-looking water can change with waves and weather. Take water, sun protection and a way back before a remote outing. The right beach is the one that suits the group and conditions today, not a fixed top-five ranking.
